TSC: Teachers Aged 56 Years and Above To Work In Their Home Areas
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has revealed that considerations are in place regarding the delocalization program.
Part of those considerations is to allow teachers aged 56 years or older to work in their home counties.
Besides, their spouses are to be stationed in stations that are near the schools where those aged 56 years or older will be working.
According to the TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), delocalized teachers who wish to change their stations should make requests personally.
This was following the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) meeting held in Kisumu to deliberate on the issues of reversals of the delocalization policy.
KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu said that reversing transfers has become a challenge since the government abolished the delocalization of teachers.
Oyuu said that many may not be aware that there is an issue with what happens to teachers who have indicated the desire to return to their home counties after the posts they held there have been filled.
The union also praised the government’s pledge to recruit more teachers.
Oyuu said that the government, through the Teachers Service Commission has already advertised 35,550 slots in both elementary and secondary schools.
In addition, the union requests the Commission to give it permission to resolve the disciplinary issue through the Teachers Appeals Tribunal.
“The Tribunal was abolished at some point for reasons we are not aware of. As it stands, TSC accuses teachers, hears cases and determined their fate. Initially, we used to sit at the Commission, more so when a teacher has been dismissed and he or she appeals,” said Oyuu.
