President Uhuru Kenyatta nominates Jamleck Muturi as TSC Chairperson
President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Jamleck Muturi as Chairperson and Alfred Otieno Oyucho as a member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
On Tuesday, speaker Justin Muturi referred the matter to the Education committee to vet the applicants in line with the provisions of the Kenyan Constitution.
“The committee should notify the nominees and the general public of the time and place for holding the approval hearings, and upon conclusion of the hearings, table their Report in the House in good time to enable the House to consider the matter within the stipulated timelines,” said the speaker.
Members of Parliament are set to conclude the process within a period of 21 days.
Before this appointment, Oyucho has been serving as a lawyer to the TSC.
The lawyer led cases against KNUT and proved a handful in neutralizing the giant teachers union.
In the past month, President Uhuru appointed a nine-member Teacher Service Selection Panel.
In a Gazette notice of date February 22, President Uhuru said the team shall be responsible for selecting nominees for appointment as the chairperson and one member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 (2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act, I, Uhuru Kenyatta, President, and Commander – in – Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint under paragraph (a) Thomas Koyier – Chairperson for the Selection Panel,” read part of the notice.
The outgoing TSC chairperson, Lydia Nzomo’s six-year term as TSC chairperson ended on November 18 last year.
