KNUT Calls for JSS Renaming to Intermediate School
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) through the Nyandarua Branch Executive Secretary Johana Ndung’u has implored the government to rename Junior Secondary School (JSS) to Intermediate School.
According to the union official, this will help in distinguishing JSS learners from their fellow learners in primary school.
Ndung’u was speaking at Olkalou Primary School where he said that the changing of names could help to avoid confusion that is being experienced across the country.
“Most parents and learners are confused since all learning will take place in primary schools. How will JSS learners and their counterparts in primary schools be distinguished?” posed Ndung’u.
He lauded the government for retaining JSS in primary schools, pointing out that the move has ensured a smooth transition of grade Seven (7).
Ndugu also said that addition of more infrastructure should be put up in primary schools to ensure smooth learning.
“The government should construct more Science laboratories and classrooms to accommodate all JSS learners and enable them to acquire quality education,” said Ndung’u.
Besides, Ndung’u lauded the government for employing more teachers to address the shortage of teachers. He added that more teachers will still need to be recruited to assist in the implementation of the government’s 100 percent transition policy.
