Joy As 35 Herbalists Graduate From Kisii University
There were reasons to celebrate as 35 traditional herbalists from Kisii county who had been researching on various trees together with Kisii University graduated with certificates and diplomas in the past week
The herbalists had been working closely with KEMRI and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University. They underwent training within the premises of the university at the Kisii County Herbalists and Research Centre since 2014 in a bid to keep up with the changing trends in their medicine.
Under the leadership of Peter Nyaora, the herbalists discovered around 250 trees which can be used to cure various diseases and plans are underway for the county government to allocate them land to plant their own trees.
Nyaosa with his Secretary Jackline Birundu and the County Director of Culture Obino Nyambane said that the graduation was a success achieved from the Memorandum of Understanding between the national and county government where they partnered with the university to support the sector.
Nyambane said that the MoU was to assist the government to understand how the herbalists work and also to find out if the herbs they use can truly heal people.
The herbalists lauded the county government but warned members of the public to be on the lookout for unauthorized herbalists and doctors.
