Coding Set To Be Included In School Curriculum In 2023

According to President William Ruto, coding is set to be included in the school curriculum starting from next year (2023) following a lengthy deliberation with global technology leaders.

The teaching of coding lessons will help learners to gain skills in technology which will enable them to cope with the technology-savvy future ahead.

Speaking during the Jamhuri Tech and Innovation Summit held at the KICC, the Head of State revealed that learners will be empowered and given tools to express themselves effectively.

“We need to know how to grow our technology from primary school. You have heard about coding, that is now going to be part of our curriculum to ensure technology becomes a part of our journey from primary school all the way to university,” said President Ruto.

The Head of State added that all careers at the moment require technical skills be it software development, customer management, graphic design or even marketing.

“We are developing relevant policies that will nurture and stimulate innovation in Kenya, this is in appreciation that innovation has the power to accelerate productivity, generate employment and create wealth for millions of ordinary people,” he added.
