Schools to Reopen on Monday October 12, CS Magoha

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has officially announced the school resumption dates to Monday the 12th of October 2020, for both the Primary and Secondary Schools.

The form 4 class for high schools, standard 8 for the upper primary, and grade 4 pupils are the ones that will report to schools this coming Monday.

“The Ministry of Education notifies the public that the progressive re-opening of schools will commence with Grade 4, Class 8, and Form 4 on Monday, 12th October 2020,” read the press release from the Ministry of Education.

Schools will then close on December 23rd for a one-week Christmas break before resuming on January the 4th 2021, before officially ending the term on March 24th, 2021.

School Reopening Schedule for Primary and Secondary Schools

According to the Ministry of Education’s press release, the Primary and Secondary School term 2 calendars begin from  Monday 12th October 2020 to 23rd of December 2020. Term 2 will have a  total of 11 weeks.

The term 3 calendars on the other hand will begin from January the 4th 2021 to 19th March 2021. Term 3 will also contain 11 weeks.

KCSE and KCPE Examination Dates

Prof Magoha said that the KCSE examinations will run from the 25th of March 2021 and end on the 16th of April 2021.

Kenya Certificate of Primary Education KCPE exams will begin from the 19th of March 2021 for three days and end on the 24th of March 2021.

Marking of 2020 KCSE  Examinations

The 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations KCSE will be officially marked starting from the 19th of April 2021 to May the 7th 2021.

Marking exercise for the 2020 KCSE examination scripts will take 3 weeks.

Resumption Dates for Form 1, 2, 3, and the Other Primary Classes

The Ministry of Education has not indicated the dates when the form 1, form 2 and form 3 secondary school classes will resume. This also includes the other primary school classes Standard 5, 6, and 7, Grade 1, 2, and 3, and the Pre-Primary.

However, going by Dr. Sarah Ruto’s task-force recommendations, the remaining classes are likely to open about two weeks from Monday the 12th of October 2020, depending on the Covid-19 management.
