President Uhuru has ended uncertainty with schools now going to reopen as planned for the third term.
During the Labour Day celebrations at State House on Saturday, His Excellency President Uhuru assured parents and learners that the school calendar will proceed as scheduled without interruption.
Besides, President Uhuru clarified further regarding reopening as he lifted the lockdown in the COVID-19 high-risk zones comprising of five counties. Learners in the five counties that have been under lockdown will now stream to their respective schools when the date to reopen comes.
The imposed restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19 will now ease any concerns among Kenyans regarding the reopening of schools.
However, President Uhuru maintained the curfew will remain as it has been from 10 pm to 4 am.
On the 26th of March 2021, President Uhuru ordered cessation of movement into and out of the counties of Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, and Nakuru as one block.
Cabinet Secretary for Health Mutahi Kagwe gave an indication last week that schools could be postponed for a later date due to the collision of the reopening date for schools and the time when the lockdown was to end.
CS Kagwe had said that the cessation of movement in and out of the five zoned counties was set to expire on the 29th of May which will be 19 days after the reopening date for schools.
Uhuru also ordered bars to be allowed to operate as normal until 7 pm. Restaurants are also going to resume normal operations.
Uhuru’s move to lift the lockdown comes after many business people and Kenyans in general raised concerns about the economy.
Activists assembled on Saturday in Nairobi’s Central Business District and had planned a protest march to State House to demonstrate over the imposed measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. The Measures have led to many feeling financial stress as the economic recession takes shape.
