More Primary School Teachers Contracted to administer KPSEA examinations

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has added to the number of primary school teachers set to administer primary school examinations and assessments.

The Examiner has contracted more than 250,000 teachers in pre-primary, primary and secondary schools to administer this year’s national examinations set to be done towards the end of this month.

Due to this year having three national examinations, the number of teachers contracted to administer examinations exceeds that of last year’s 242,406 teachers who administered the national examinations.

This year Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and candidates and the Competence-Based Curriculum’s Grade 6 learners who are also going to sit for their Grade 6 examinations.

Selected teachers are required to check on the CP2 portal to confirm their deployment with a selection letter downloaded to act as evidence of deployment.

Approximately 1,268,830 Grade 6 learners will sit for their KPSEA examinations, 1,230,000 will sit for the KCPE examination while Form 4 will have 880,000 sitting for their KCSE examination.

Most of the Sub-Counties have already vetted teachers as Centre Managers, Invigilators and Supervisors and have attended KPSEA, KCPE and KCSE briefings.

KNEC sensitized contracted professionals on various issues including Recruitment and deployment of field officers, management and administration of examinations, assessment of learners after the stage-based pathway, quality assurance during national examinations, handling of candidates’ answer scripts and receiving and handling of scripts.

KNEC has already communicated that only the Centre Manager, deputy Principal/Headteacher, supervisor(s), invigilator(s), gatekeeper, lab technician and science teachers only during practicals and other authorized staff who will prepare meals for candidates whose movements will only be restricted to the kitchen.

All contracted professionals will be paid only after the examinations and assessments have been done and the results released to the Public.

The teachers must have also registered on the CP2 portal for them to be paid.
