Headteacher Intentionally Fails To Register KCPE Candidates

A primary school headteacher of Nkaimurunya Primary School has allegedly been revealed to have intentionally failed to register Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates.

According to reports, most of these learners as autistic.

The affected students ought to have been enrolled under a particular category of students.

Despite the learners being legitimate students at the school, Ms Charity Marinda failed to register them and chastised their parents who had gone to the school to talk with her about the issue.

The students said that the headteacher always told them that they will not take the national examinations.

According to one of the students, the principal told them that ‘they should remember that they will not sit for their examinations.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) utilizes headteachers in the registration of students for the national examinations.

According to reports, the names of the three individuals who were always informed that they were not registered had been replaced with others.

The candidates ought to have been registered by the 14th of May 2022 with an earlier deadline having been set on the 30th of April 2022.

On the 17th of May, one of the parents whose child was not registered reached the headteacher for an explanation over the same and pleaded for her to register her child but the headteacher dismissed her.

“The headteacher was so rude and hostile. I even shed tears. She uttered cruel words to me,” said one of the parents.

The father said that the headteacher had looked him in the eyes and told him that she would not register ‘fools’.

The parent’s learner is autistic, meaning the learner is a slow learner.

KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere has informed all schools during the release of the 2021 KCPE results that schools should register all learners. Registration is usually done through the KNEC portal.
