On Monday the Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu assured the public that this year’s national examinations will be credible.
Machogu was inspecting the distribution of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examination papers in Mombasa. He revealed that the government has put in place security measures to curb cheating in the national examinations.
He said that KPSEA and KCPE examinations were delivered on time to all 493 testing centres across the country.
More than 1.6 million Grade 6 learners registered and are currently doing their KPSEA examination.
On Monday, students in Grade 8 will sit for their sit for Mathematics, English language and composition. On Tuesday they will sit for Science, Kiswahili and Insha. On the last day on Wednesday, they will sit for Social Studies and Religious education papers.
Grade Six graders will sit for Mathematics and English today. On Tuesday, they will sit for Integrated Science and Kiswahili and finish on Wednesday with Creative Arts and Social Studies.
Grade Six subjects have been bundled together into five Integrated Science courses. These courses comprise Science and Technology, Agriculture, Home Science and Physical Health.
Included in Creative Arts and Social Studies and Social Studies, Christian, Islamic, and Hindu Education, Arts and Crafts, and Music.
Summative assessments make up 60% while school-based assessments make up 40%.
2,531,785 primary school candidates will sit for their national exams with 1,244,188 candidates sitting for their KCPE exams and 1,285,597 candidates sitting for their KPSEA examinations under the CBC.
All the examination administrators we interviewed agreed that everything is in place for credible national examinations.
Officials from the Ministry of Education and Cabinet Secretaries are on the grounds in various centres to ensure that the national examinations are a success.
