The government has put in place cybercrime experts to handle any cases of examination cheating in the forthcoming national examinations.
This year institutions of basic education are set to handle up to three examinations with primary schools having the 8-4-4’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Competence-Based Curriculum’s Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA while secondary schools will handle the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
According to the current Cabinet Secretary for Education Ezekiel Machogu, cybercrime experts are able to track the origin of any message relayed about the examinations.
“The Government has deployed cybercrime experts across the country to help in monitoring the examinations. This is aimed at promoting sanctity that the national examinations deserve,” said CS Machogu.
CS Machogu was speaking when he attended a meeting with examination centre managers from Homabay and Migori Counties that was held at Homa Bay High School on Friday.
Besides, he also said that the experts will help to cushion parents and students from conmen who are selling examination materials online.
This comes amid learners’ preparations to sit for the three major examinations. Form four candidates will sit for the KCSE examinations while Grade Six and Class Eight learners will sit for their KPSEA and KCPE examinations respectively.
Machogu said that anybody found circulating academic materials online in the name of examination leakages will be arrested and face the full force of the law.
Besides, the CS also implored parents, students and teachers to report anybody who circulates such materials to security officials, saying that they had come to an agreement with security officials on how to deal with whistleblowers regarding examination leakages.
Machogu’s entourage comprised the County Commissioner of Homabay Moses Lilan, Basic Education Principal Secretary Julius Jwan, Kenya National Examinations Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Njeng’ere and the County Education Director Eunice Khaemba.
