Siaya KMTC Campus Students Begins learning in Kshs 45 million Ugunja satellite Campus
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) will open the doors on its new Kshs 45 million worth Ugunja satellite Campus from next week.
Ribbon-cutting and open door ceremony is expected to take place next week.
Ugunja MP Hon. Opiyo Wandayi paid a courtesy call to the institution to welcome the College Board of Directors.
As witnessed, workers were busy today, making final touches.
Even before the Campus officially opens its doors, Siaya Campus has already relocated some classes to the new facility.
“We are very excited to study in such a posh facility,” said one student.
Board Chairperson Prof. Philip Kaloki approved the new facility, saying it meets standards prescribed by the College.
“Beginning March, we will have the first intake of students. We want to commend the MP for a good job,” he said.
The construction of the College is financed by Ugunja National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi is banking on the College to fulfill the national government’s agenda of universal health coverage.
He said the project hopes to open up the region for investment, noting that already a section of community members are erecting accommodation facilities for the students.
Prof. Kaloki was accompanied by Board Directors Mithamo Muchiri, Fred Wamwaki, and Martin Sirengo; senior members of staff from KMTC headquarters, and Principals.
KMTC contributes over 85% of the local middle-level human resources for the health sector, with other graduates employed in many African countries and in the U.S, Canada, and the European Union.
The College has remarkably upgraded its infrastructure, thanks to a collaboration with County Governments, NG-CDF, Beyond Zero, World Bank, St. John’s Ambulance, National Youth Service, USAID among others.
