SRC Starts Reviewing Allowances of Civil Servants
A new allowances scheme will kick in starting from April 2022 with civil servants earning a completely new set of allowances after the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) completes its review.
This means that before the review kicks in, all public institutions will be required to submit a list of the allowances that are currently being paid by the 30th of November.
Following the review, all civil servants are going to receive allowances as absolute figures instead of percentages.
SRC has also done a restructuring of the allowances from 247 to five new broad categories. If any state agency does not provide the lists, allowances will be halted for them.
According to the SRC, the reviewed allowances will be implemented gradually i.e. in different stages.
“We will not implement the issued guidelines at the same time,” said Mengich the SRC chairperson.
Besides, the SRC revealed that governors do not have any say in setting allowances. This is after proposed legislation that will send off pay for governors and perks for staffers of county governments.
“The bill has not been passed yet, we will take the necessary steps once that happens,” she added.
