Parent Fights Head Teacher over Sending Learner to Collect Birth Certificate Fee
Ugandan Police have started an investigation into an incident whereby a parent elected to assault a school headteacher for sending home his child to collect birth certificate fees.
Jamil Magezi, the headteacher, refused to allow the parent’s three children to attend classes until they produced the fees required to process their birth certificates.
Jamil Mwanje stormed the school compound and charged Magezi who was in his office.
During the incident, other teachers who were attending lessons in class revealed that they had their senior teacher screaming forcing them to find out what was going on.
“We rushed to find out what was going on. We found Mwanje engaging in a physical fight with the headteacher accusing him of sending his children home to collect fees for processing birth certificates,” said one of the female teachers.
Following this, the parent, Mwanje eloped immediately.
Godfrey Tumwekase, the chairman of Matete Sub-County condemned the incident saying that the attack was not necessary.
“As local leaders, we are will help the police to pursue Mr Mwanje who hid after the incident,” he said.

Back in 2019 in Elgeyo Marakwet County, angry parents stormed the institution demanding the eviction of female teachers at Kapsait Primary School.
Parents attempted to force the teachers out of the school alleging that female teachers, the majority had been lazy and were not taking their jobs seriously.
Parents on their hand argued that they were just concerned about the poor performance in the 2018 KCPE.
Fortunately, the area local administrators accompanied by the area chief was made aware of the situation which temporarily interrupted normal school programs. No property was destroyed in the school.
