Unrest Reported Among Chesamisi Boys Students Following Zonal Sports Defeat

On Sunday night, students from Chesamisi Boys High School in Bungoma County were involved in unrest and property damage following a 2-1 defeat by St. Peters Nakalira High School during zonal school games.

Incident at Kamusinde Boys High School

The match was hosted at the Kamusinde Boys High School grounds. Reports state that tensions rose when students from the host school joined Nakalira students in celebrating the win. Later that evening, Chesamisi students reportedly directed their frustration toward Kamusinde Boys High School. The Kamusinde administration issued an alert on social media regarding the campus disturbances, prompting local authorities to intervene and restore order.

Consequently, the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) indefinitely suspended all remaining sports fixtures at the Kamusinde grounds.

Impact on Local Agriculture

The unrest also affected adjacent agricultural land. A local farmer reported that students encroached on his sugarcane plantation, resulting in significant damage to several acres of mature crops. The farmer has formally requested an investigation and compensation from both local authorities and the Ministry of Education.

Local educational stakeholders have since addressed the events, reiterating the need for sportsmanship and peaceful conduct during inter-school sports competitions.
