The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has declared the cancellation of all annual leave and field activities for all its staff in preparation for the national examinations. The examinations shall commence on March 222.
TSC Secretary Nancy Macharia yesterday directed all field officers to offer undivided attention to the process of examination.
“The Commission has canceled all annual leave and field activities for all our sub-county, county, and regional officers during the examination period.
“We have asked all those who had already proceed on leave to report to their stations effective March 8 to step up joint preparations for the smooth delivery of all examinations,” said Dr. Nancy Macharia.
Macharia said that the Commission had issued guidelines to teachers and officials who will be involved in the examination process on complying with COVID-19 mitigation measures.
227,629 teachers will supervise and manage the examination process of the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). The two national examinations shall begin on March 22.
This is an increase from the 201,000 teachers who were involved during the last national examinations in 2019.
1,191,725 candidates are set to sit for the KCPE examination compared to 10 the 1,088,986 in 2019. The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has registered 752,981 candidates for KCSE compared to 699,745 who were registered in 2019.
Examination centers have also seen an increase. They are now at 10,437 from 10,287 for KCSE while for KCPE, they stand at a total of 28,647 from the 22,809 in 2019.
Grade 4 formative assessments under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) are set to start next week on Monday. The TSC CEO implored field officers to support schools to ensure teachers access KNEC’s assessment tools.
