The Principal was nabbed following allegations of examination malpractice in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
Machakos sub-county Criminal Investigations Officer Rhoda Kanyi said that the principal was released while awaiting feedback from a cybercrime detective regarding the confiscated phone before the suspect can be arraigned in court.
DCI officials arrested the Principal, Betta Mutuku of ABC Kiseveni Secondary School located in Machakos sub-county on the morning of Tuesday.
The detectives revealed that they had acted based on intelligence information.
According to the DCIO Machakos County, the Principal is alleged to have taken a photograph of a stolen KCSE Mathematics paper 2 and uploaded it to her WhatsApp status so that her candidates could study it before sitting for the actual paper the following day.
Betta Mutuku is alleged to have done the crime on the evening of Monday, a day before the scheduled day for KCSE Mathematics Paper 2.
The suspect was taken to the Machakos Police Station where she underwent interrogation.
“She had posted the examinations on her status for the candidates to study at night,” said Kanyi to reporters when the arrest happened.
Police officers confiscated the phone of the Machakos principal in order to help in the investigations.
