Form four students from Lugulu Girls High School, in Bungoma County staged demonstrations on Tuesday morning along the Webuye-Kitale highway to protest against increasing cases of defilement in the school.
The national school students were complaining of rape cases which have occurred within the school. The girls alleged that the school administration have been covering the cases to shield the rape suspects.
Our sources in the school indicated that the students begun complaining yesterday night.
The demos then climaxed today morning when the students physically took to the streets to air out their grievances.
Reports by Mnews indicated that an OB at Kituni Police Station, confirmed that the School Principal Mrs. Dina Cheruyot, reported to the station that the students were screaming.
“Form four student were screaming and making a lot of noise demanding to be addressed by ministry of education officials since the school management were adamant”, reported Mnews.
Reports indicate that on the 5th of December 2020 at around 0445 hours, one of the 16-year-old student alleged that while bathing, unknown male person attempted to defile her. However, she alerted the others. This made the suspect run away from the scene.
The angry demonstrating students allege that the school administration was informed in the morning on the same day about the December 5th incident, but took no action.
It is against this background that the students claim led to them picketing along the highway.
Police have confirmed that no student has been injured or any damages caused.
On contacting one of the members of staff at Lugulu Girls High School, Teacher.co.ke confirmed that the students’ unrest has been contained.
“The student demonstrations occurred in the morning. As we speak, they have been contained,” said the staff member.
