Imarika Foundation alongside Rotary Club, Serianu and Computers for Schools Kenya (CFS) have donated a modern computer lab to Kibaoni Primary School located in Kilifi County.
The school is in the Magarini area and has a student population of 995 pupils, 499 of them being male and 496 female.
The school will now be able to integrate Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in their day-to-day activities of learning as demanded by the new Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) once the project is finished.
During the launching ceremony, Imarika Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr Peter Angore was happy and appreciated all the parties’ efforts in the noble project to change the lives of the learners through the computer lab project.
“I am thanking you for choosing Imarika Foundation as your implementing partner. The project shall be an eye opener in the community and the region and I urge us to come together again in future and put up another project in a different location in Kilifi,” said Angore.
Among the attendees at the event were all the partners, teachers and school heads.
The computer lab will not only learners in the selected school but also learners in other schools in the areas surrounding the school will benefit. This is because Kibaoni primary school will now be the only school in its location that has a computer lab.
According to the CFSK, the role of the partnership was to provide the needed total solution once the computers were in schools.
Among the solutions was providing the required software that suited the learner as per the requirements of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), offering relevant content that touches on both the CBC and the gradually outgoing 8-4-4 system and helping teachers and learners to interact with the computers through the provision of the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP).
The Operations Manager at Computers for Schools Kenya Miriam Ndavi said that in previous times, they had partnered with the Rotary Club to establish two Computer labs in Kikuyu and Nanyuki.
On his part, the Malindi Rotary Club President and former Rotary Club Assistant Governor Mr Erick Mwashigadi lauded the individuals who supported the project and for choosing Kibaoni Primary as the first beneficiary school in that County.
“Despite the school being in a far-flung area of Kilifi County, I am hopeful that this project will be beneficial to both learners and their teachers,” he said.
