Over 80 students who are going to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination next year in Matungulu Boys High School in Kangundo Sub-County stormed out of their institution, saying they are tired of studying.
The students walked out of their school yesterday (Wednesday) evening without showing any act of riot before skipping their meals for the day. Only 36 students remained in the school to continue their studies.
Some of them talked to journalists in Tala town and cited unhappiness with the school administration, terming it as “too strict”.

“We are tired of studying. The principal has been too strict on us and denied us our rights. We prefer to stay at home and only come to do our examinations when they are scheduled,” said one of the students.
They also claimed the school diet was poor and that the school administration withdrew their weekly entertainment sessions.
Speaking to the media on Thursday morning, the school principal, Joseph Makau condemned the student’s behavior. He viewed it as ‘a display of gross misconduct’.
“Those who walked out of the school are those who conduct their lives “the freestyle” mode. They do not want to follow the basic regulations for conducive learning. We will stay firm and as a school, we will not allow any indiscipline that threatens smooth learning,” said the Principal.
The principal said that before the schools closed in March due to COVID-19, many students were on counseling because of the use of hard drugs.
Makau also said that he had informed all parents of the students who had stormed out of the school over the incident. The principal added that the students did not destroy any school property.
