1,187,517 candidates are set to sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) today, on Monday the 22nd of March, 2021.
This happens as their form four counterparts are preparing to sit for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations from this Friday, 26th of March, 2021.
All learning institutions were closed in March 2020 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. This is the reason have broken from the normal schedule of November and December when the national examinations are usually done.
The Rehearsals for KCPE were done on Friday and COVID-19 safety measures were at the very core of the rehearsals. COVID-19 measures shall be strictly followed during the national examinations so as to protect learners.
As per the time time, today (Monday) 8:30 am to 10:30 am the candidates will sit for the Mathematics paper, 11:30 am to 1:10 pm, they will sit for English and finish the day with English Composition writing at 2:30 pm.
His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta in his message to learners implored candidates not to give up on their dreams and aspirations in life.
Amani National Congress Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi appreciated the learners’ efforts in preparing for the national examinations amid very tough conditions. The global COVID-19pandemic is still affecting people’s lives to this day as the third wave is ongoing in the country.
“I wish you Godspeed as you prepare for this important moment in your life. Ensure you put your best foot forward. Remember that it is only during challenging times such as this that your true courage is expressed. Go out and conquer these examinations. Your parents and teachers are counting on you for a good result,” he said.
On the second day, the KCPE examination will entail the subjects of Science, Kiswahili Lugha and then the candidates will finish with Kiswahili Insha.
The three-day national examination will be completed on Wednesday 24th of March 2021 with the Social Studies and Religious Education paper.
On Friday the 26th of March 2021, 751,150 KCSE candidates in the country shall commence their written examinations.
The Ministry of Education has assured candidates that the examinations will be done in a fair manner and questions that will be set shall be from the current syllabus.
The Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha assured learners at the same time that no paper had been revealed to anybody and urged learners to engage in cheating.
Cumulatively, the 2020 national examinations (KCSE and KCPE) have a total of 1,938,667 candidates.
