Grade 6 Examination Guidelines Issued As Well As How to Verify Registration Information

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has revealed the guidelines for the Grade Six national examinations in 2022.

Yesterday the KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere revealed that the final Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) for Grade Six will be presented using the multiple-choice format.

Njengere said that the Grade 6 examinations follow the Ministry of Education’s Basic Curriculum Framework.

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) created the framework with national assessments placed in Grades Three, Four, Five and Six. A part of Grade 6 assessments are formative while learners will sit for a summative assessment at the end of Grade 6.

Njengere revealed that the tests have already been scheduled and are ready for administration.

He said that because this is the first final assessment under the CBC, nothing has changed in the format.

The assessments will comprise both formative assessments that teachers will administer in Grades Four, Five and Six and a summative assessment that KNEC will administer at the end of Grade 6.

Parents and students were concerned that the examinations would not be administered in a multiple-choice format. They thought the format used for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (KCSE) was the one that was to be used.

Learners in Grade 6 were to be assessed in five subjects during the summative assessment. Mathematics and English are to be assessed on the first day while Integrated Science and Kiswahili are on the second day and Creative Arts and Social Studies are on the third day.

According to the KNEC, 1.25 million students are set to sit for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

The marking of the KPSEA will be done with the available resources and results released according to the guidelines established. However, Composition and Kiswahili Insha will be graded electronically because they will be multiple choice in nature.

How to Verify or Confirm Registration Details

KNEC released a report yesterday informing head teachers, parents and candidates on how they can confirm their registration details for the 2022 KPSEA.

Headteachers, parents and candidates can now confirm the registration details by sending an SMS containing the learner’s index starting with the word KCPE or KPSEA or KCSE. For instance, if your child is index number 123456012, and she is set to sit for her KCPE, you will send KCPE123456012 to 20076.

You will then receive a reply to confirm the registration details of your child.
