According to the Principal Secretary of State Department for Vocational and Technical Training Dr Margaret Mwakima, the government is planning to establish a National Polytechnic in every county.
Speaking at the Kinoru Stadium located in Meru County during the 5th Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) TVET fair, Dr Mwakima revealed that plans are underway to come with Technical and Vocational College (TVC) in every sub-county and a Vocation Training Centre in every ward.
She said that the institutions would be built to e Centres of Excellence in one or two trade areas to promote specialization among students.
Dr Mwakima also revealed that the government has already established 26 Centres of Excellence in TVET institutions while prioritizing skills required in regions where the institutions are located.
Besides, Dr Mwakima said that 12 TVET institutions had also been given support with value addition equipment to be incorporated in training with production.
However, the promise of TVET institutions in Counties, sub-counties and wards is not going to happen overnight and could take some time before this is realized but this should give prospective learners a glimmer of hope.
