KEs 52 Million worth of bursary funds have been allocated to 4,500 students from Mwala, Machakos County to support their education.
The good news was revealed by the area Member of Parliament Vincent Musau following a meeting with the students during a verification exercise of the digital bursary application that he launched.
The MP said that there were 6,000 applications but some were filtered out following sorting that revealed that 1,500 students came from outside the sub-county.
“This is the highest number of applications in the constituency. We have done the sorting to ensure t students from the sub-county benefit thus we arrived at 4,500 applications,” said Musau.
He said that he introduced the bursary via online means to do away with cons.
In addition, he revealed that the digital bursary application saved the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) Kes. 8 Million.
“We set up a digital system because we realized people who come up with non-existent schools and send hundreds of students to apply for the bursary. These people are now cornered and cannot do anything,” he said.
He issued a warning to those involved in such vices will be banned from accessing bursaries for good.
