BOM Teachers to Receive Pay on 11th September 2020, Says Education CAS

The Ministry of Education CAS Zack Kinuthia has confirmed that the Kenyan School Board of Management BOM Teachers will receive their salary payment on Friday the 11th of September 2020.

According to the Chief Administrative Secretary, only teachers registered by the Teachers Service Commission, and were enrolled to teach by the 15th of March 2020, will be paid.

If the payment comes true, it will be a great sigh of relief to BOM teachers who gone for over 6 months of stay without pay.

The Nation reported that the funds have been signed for release after a thorough validation of the teachers’ list as submitted by the school heads.

Only 43,000 BOM Teachers will Recieve Salary Pay

After verification of the list of teachers, the valid beneficiaries reduced from 126, 000 to only 43,000 teachers (34 percent).

Speaking to the Nation, Dr. Belio Kipsang, Principal Secretary of Education said the list of 43,000 teachers has been verified and the funds cleared for release.

Dr. Kipsang further pointed out that each beneficiary of the Government’s sh.1.72 billion must sign and be countersigned by the school head. This is to help in the auditing of the funds.

National Intelligence Service (NIS) Gives Hand in Verification of BOM Teachers List

Education CAS said, “The screening (BOM list of teachers submitted by school heads) …, included listing the help of the National Intelligence Service (NIS)”.

In addition to the NSIS, the County Education Directors took part in the verification process.

Kinuthia added that to ensure the beneficiaries are valid, the group made impromptu visits to some particular schools.

After the entire verification process, the Ministry dropped 83,000 names from the list beneficiaries. This amounts to over 66 percent of beneficiaries listed in the previous list will not receive the payment.

The Ministry explained that the majority of the names listed to benefit from the Government’s funding had been cooked.

”…some headteachers employed tricks, such as using names of serving and retired teachers as well as dead ones, friends outside teaching profession and board members listed as instructors,” reported the Nation.

Education Stakeholders to Meet Next Week to Deliberate on School Reopening Dates

On matters of school reopening, the Ministry of Education CAS insisted that January remains the re-opening date unless something drastic happens.

He however added that they will have a meeting involving all the stakeholders on the 16th of September to deliberate on the matter.

BOM Teachers and Staff are Broke, with No one else to Turn To

However little the money may look to the Government, the Ksh. 10,000 is what the broke and hunger-stricken BOM teachers and staff are pleading to have sooner than now.

Let the Government hasten the process and pay the BOM teachers.
