4695 Students from Homabay County to Benefit from Kes. 31 Million Bursary

Four thousand, six hundred and ninety-five students from Kasipul constituency located in Homabay County have been awarded Kes. 31 million in bursary fees from the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to support needy students.

Kasipul Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Ong’ondo Were said that the bursaries would help the students to stay in school and focus on their studies. He said that they had provided bursaries to 4,695 students since the reopening of schools this year.

Hon. Charles Ong’ondo revealed that they began the vetting process four months ago before standard eight (8) pupil results were released. He added that they had sorted 2,300-day scholars, 1,399 boarders and 996 tertiary-level students.

In addition, the MP said that Kasipul was ranked as the best in the latest audit in terms of bursary allocations and the distribution of the bursary was done in a transparent and fair manner.

He said that the allocation of the bursary funds was done per polling centre with each centre having forty (40) beneficiaries.

The MP emphasized that students from day schools were allocated 50% of the bursary funds while their boarding school and tertiary level counterparts would receive 20% and 25% respectively.

He said that the percentage of day scholars in each polling centre was higher than in other categories hence why they were allocated the more significant share of the funds.

Ong’ondo said that they had embarked on several programmes with the intention of improving learning in schools through purchasing school buses, constructing laboratories and libraries and improving roads with the constituency to enhance accessibility.

The lawmaker assured members of the public that the distribution of bursary funds was fair and that students from day schools were the ones allocated the largest share of the bursary.
