According to Nyandarua County Director of Education Philip Wambua, the Ministry of Education has approved 402 primary schools in the county after they met the requirements for admitting Junior Secondary School (JSS) learners.
According to Wambua, 325 of the 402 schools are public schools while 77 are private schools.
The Nyandarua County Director was speaking in his office when he implored all education officers to ensure that the process is fair and transparent so that only primary schools which meet the requirements of JSS admit Grade 7, learners.
He said that as of the 13th of January 2023, education officers from the county had completed the assessment in all sub-counties.
“We assessed 462 primary schools, 350 public and 112 private schools. After a thorough assessment, we approved 325 public and 77 private primary schools,” said Wambua.
He also revealed that in the Kinangop South sub-county, 45 public and 18 private schools were approved out of the 45 public and 25 private schools there.
The Ministry of Education approved all 27 public schools and four private schools in the Aberdare sub-county out of the 27 public primary schools and two private primary schools in the county.
In Nyandarua Central, out of the 46 public and 6 private schools, 41 public and five private schools were given the green light while the Mirangine sub-county had 25 public schools and 3 private primary schools approved out of 29 public and 13 private schools.
Wanjohi sub-county says 34 public and six private primary schools approved while the Ngaranji sub-county saw 23 public and two private schools approved out of 24 public schools and five primary schools.
In the Kipipiri sub-county, out of 30 public and six private primary schools, 27 public and three private primary schools were approved while in Nyandarua North sub-county 36 public schools out of 43 public schools got approved alongside 8 private schools out of the 11 private schools in the sub-county.
Nyandarua West sub-county saw 22 public primary schools and 10 private primary schools approved out of the 25 public and 11 private schools in the sub-county.
Wambua implored all parents and guardians to ensure that all learners get admission to JSS.
“We want to encourage parents in Nyandarua County to ensure all learners are admitted to JSS,” said Wambua.
The County Director lauded all candidates who performed well in their national examinations and called on this year’s candidates to do better than their counterparts.
He also praised all parents and other stakeholders of education for their cooperation in supporting education in the county.
Nyandarua High School was one of the best-performing schools with a mean score of 8.55, Karima Girls had 8.463, Kisima Secondary had 9.17, Njambine Boys had 7.5936 while Nyahuru High Schools had 7.171.
