UK PhD and Masters Open For Application by Kenyan Students
The Ministry of Education has implored Kenyans to make use of the Commonwealth scholarship opportunities being offered by the United Kingdom (UK).
According to the PS for Education Simon Nabukwesi, the ministry of education was informed by the British High Commission in Kenya about the Commonwealth PhD and Masters scholarships in the UK next year.
“The Common Wealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom is offering eighteen PhD and nineteen Masters full scholarships to Kenya citizens tenable in 2023,” said Nabukwesi.
In a letter addressed to all vice-chancellors of public and private universities and principals of university colleges, the PS revealed that the online application shall be open on September 6, 2022, and shall close on October 18, 2022, at around 5:00 pm.
“The purpose of this letter is to request you to pass the information on the attached advertisement to interested persons to apply,” said Nabukwesi.
The advertisement was revealed on the Ministry of Education’s website www.education.go.ke.
To be eligible for a master’s degree scholarship, potential candidates are required to be Kenyan citizens with a bachelor’s degree of at least second-class upper division from a recognized university with a strong academic background.
Prospective master’s candidates are also required to have a supporting statement from two referees, a proposal in the field of study clearly indicating the potential impact on the country’s development, a quality study plan and be of age under 35 years.
Potential candidates for the Ph. D are required to be Kenyan citizens with a master’s degree from a recognized university, supporting statements from two referees, one supporting statement from a supervisor in a UK institution, and a proposal in the area of the study clearly demonstrating the potential impact on the development of the country.
The applicants must are required to submit a quality study plan and be under the age of 45 years.
Areas of study in the programmes are food security and nutrition, manufacturing, healthcare and housing.
According to the PS, all candidates who are eligible are required to submit online applications to the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission in the United Kingdom.

Applicants are supposed to submit three sets of hard copies of the ministry’s preliminary application form and the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission application form along with all certified copies to the Directorate of University Education addressed to the Directorate of University Education.
