TVET Institutions Urged to Offer Courses that Link Students to University

The Technical and Vocational Training institutions (TVETs) have been urged to offer programmes that meet the admission requirements set by the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA).

The Director of South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) Wote campus, Professor Harrison Maithya has urged the TVET colleges to offer courses that offer programmes that meet the standards set by TVETA to make it easy to transition to institutions of higher learning i.e. universities.

“Let us follow the guidelines and standards given by TVETA. Our learners need to be useful people in society. They also need to advance their knowledge immediately they clear middle colleges or in future,” said Professor Maithya.

Professor Maithya implored parents to ensure that their children get to higher levels of education. He informed them that there is no time money is ever enough and that money is never collected but looked for.

He called upon the area people to ensure that local institutions are used, adding that they reduce the expenses and offer all the courses they are going to pursue in an institution located far away.

“The SEKU building is not meant for decoration. We should make good use of it and ensure that we enrol our children there. Those transitioning, especially college graduates should join us. We offer international standards of education and that is why they are called universities,” said Professor Maithya.
