Deepening Kenya-Korea Educational Cooperation
H.E. Kang Hyun-Shik, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Kenya, led a delegation to the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) Athi River on Monday, March 30, 2026. Hosted by NITA Acting Director General Theresa Wasike, the high-level visit served as a familiarization exercise to evaluate the impact of ongoing collaborative projects between the Korean government and NITA centres in Athi River and Mombasa.

The engagement highlighted a robust partnership spanning over three decades. Since 1992, the Republic of Korea, through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Exim Bank of Korea, has provided critical support to strengthen Kenya’s industrial training landscape.
Milestones in Technical Excellence
During the tour, the delegation inspected state-of-the-art facilities in modern engineering, ICT, and automotive training. A focal point of the visit was the Hyundai Dream Centre, a specialized facility designed to equip youth, women, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with industry-relevant skills.
Ag. Director General Theresa Wasike emphasized that these facilities are vital for bridging the skills gap in Kenya’s labor market. For further insights into technical education trends, stakeholders can find more information at teacher.co.ke.
Vision 2027: Transforming the Construction Sector
The delegation was briefed on the progress of the ambitious 2025–2027 project, which aims to transform NITA Athi River into a premier regional hub for skills development and incubation within the construction sector. This initiative is projected to benefit over 3,200 trainees annually, fostering economic growth and self-reliance.
Ambassador Kang Hyun-Shik reaffirmed Korea’s commitment to advancing shared socio-economic goals through continued investment in human capital. Both parties concluded the visit by reiterating their dedication to expanding the scope of technical vocational training in the region.
