CHUKA: Several students injured, teacher dead after school bus rolls downhill
A Kienjeru Primary School teacher was involved in a grisly accident and died after the school bus was involved in an accident on Monday.
According to reports, the driver had given a lift to pupils from a nearby school while going to pick up pupils from Kienjeru Primary school. Unfortunately, the bus had an accident and rolled downhill in the Kangoro area.
The Head of the Region’s rescue squad Alex Mugambi revealed that he was notified of the accident at around 5:50 am on Monday.
“The driver offered me a ride alongside several secondary school students while on his way to Chuka,” said Mr. Mugambi. “It is like the vehicle’s braking system was faulty then it’s begun going backward and then began rolling down up to the river,” he added.
According to a witness, the bus seemed to lose control before rolling downhill.
Several students got injured and are undergoing treatment at the Chuka General Hospital.
The driver suffered a cut to his foot and underwent treatment and was released from the hospital on Monday together with several other students.
The body of the deceased was taken to the Chuka General Hospital mortuary a short while after the incident.
