Jamhuri Day celebrations took place at the Nyayo National Stadium yesterday and Dr. Nancy Macharia said the following statement to teachers.
On behalf of TSC I wish all the teachers a happy Jamhuri Day 2020.
On this occasion, we celebrate the establishment of Kenya as a republic.
As we mark this day, let us also take time to reflect on the contributions of our freedom champions to Kenya’s self-rule.
Coming amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the 57th Jamhuri Day is unique because we are celebrating it under MOH COVID-19 protocols.
Indeed, since schools partially reopened, teachers have been taking the lead in wearing facemasks, washing hands, and keeping social distance in their communities. I thank you for this.
I urge you not to relent in observing COVID-19 safety measures because it will take our sustained efforts in adhering to these rules to crash the Coronavirus.
While our freedom champions gave Kenya its self-rule, you and I must ensure that families, our school communities, and ourselves survive the pandemic and to live to enjoy our statehood.
DR. NANCY NJERI MACHARIA
SECRETARY/CHIEF EXECUTIVE
TSC
