Unkown assailants attacked and killed Mbale Boys teacher On Wednesday. The tragic death of the teacher has caused sorrow and fear among both students and teaching staff.
The 28-year-old Silas Owuor, a teacher of Business Studies, was the victim of a brutal attack by people who are yet to be identified on Wednesday evening that left him with severe injuries that he succumbed to near where he stays.
According to the school principal Mr Peter Omutiti, Owuor had just completed dispensing money to students from several parents for bus fare before the mid-term break.
A short moment later, news of him being attacked was heard and the school staff rushed to the scene where they found their colleague unconscious. Sadly, he passed away right there and then.
The community around the school is shaken by the incident and neighbours have expressed their sorrow and described him as a teacher who was a good neighbour who everybody loved.
Local residents are calling on the county government to prioritize the safety of teachers and improve the security of the teachers’ residences to prevent similar incidences.
The teacher’s murder has left the school without an experienced teacher who the community viewed as an important member of the community. The gap he has left behind will be felt for a long time.
The tragic incident is a reminder that the safety of teachers needs to be guaranteed by authorities and ensure that they are supported, protected and given the necessary resources to carry out their duties effectively.
The school’s teaching staff and even students now have to tread carefully amid fears of insecurity.
The reason for his attack and eventual murder is yet to be established by the police.
