Unemployed Teachers to Undergo 9-Month Diploma Upgrade In TTCs This September

Unemployed teachers are set to join Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) on Thursday the 30th of September, 2021.

However, the training is for unemployed selected applicants who will undergo the Diploma upgrading programme.

Teachers in their thousands will join their respective TTCs in September in following with the directive to upgrade from the Ministry of Education.

Principals of TTCs will then submit returns on reporting status of students on Thursday the 7th of October while County Directors of Education (CDEs) will submit uncollected calling letters on the same day.

On the 15th of July 2021, a meeting was held at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) that the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) chaired and was attended by representatives of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), KICD and the Ministry of Education who discussed the issue of upgrading for teachers.

Following the meeting, it was agreed that all ECDE and P1 teachers will undergo a nine-month Diploma upgrade course to familiarize themselves with the new methods of teaching required in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

“All teachers who are in service with Teacher Service Commission (TSC), County Governments and Private Schools will be expected to start the blended upgrade program when the school calendar normalizes after the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted it,” said PS Julius Juan.
