Two pupils who attend Chepkoilel Primary School located in Trans Nzoia County reported to school after allegedly taking alcohol.
The two learners were arrested on Friday the 3rd of September after exhibiting behaviour associated with drunkards. The duo was staggering within the school compound much to the surprise of both learners and teachers.
The two learners are in Standard 7 and Standard 8 eight respectively.
The school administrators decided to immediately escalate the matter and reported it to the area Chief Rose Chebet. The chief then took action immediately before the issue escalated any further.
“The school informed us about two pupils who were drunk and behaving in a disorderly manner. The two pupils then revealed where they had bought the brew and we arrested the culprits,” read the police report.
During the arrest, the pupils revealed the seller, a woman, who was nabbed and detained at Sango police station.
The suspect shall be arraigned in court on Monday and will be charged for selling alcohol to minors.
Chang’aa and bhang were also recovered from the dwellings of the woman suspect.
One of the pupils revealed that he had stolen money from his parents which facilitated his purchase of the brew.
Samson Ojwang, the Trans-Nzoia County Commissioner termed the incident as “very unfortunate”. He also said that the police will tighten the strings and ensure brew dens around schools are eliminated.
“This incident is unfortunate. We will not allow people to sell illegal brews and alcohol to pupils and even secondary school students,” said Ojwang.
