What are the Terms of Employment for Newly Recruited teachers?
A newly recruited teacher is placed on probation for at least six (6) months. If the teacher’s performance is poor, the probation period may be extended in some situations, in the worst-case scenario, a teacher’s job may be terminated before the probation lapses.
To be confirmed on permanent terms, the heads of the institution complete a recommendation form for the instructor, which is then submitted to TSC for approval.
The teacher is expected to report to the posting institution as specified in the job letter, and he or she has a grace period of 30 days from the effective date as stated in the letter.
The employment letter also specifies the projected basic salary per year based on the teacher’s entry grade. Besides, the teacher is entitled to monthly compensation based on his or her grade. Allowances available to teachers include, but are not limited to, house allowance and commuter allowance in addition to the two allowances. Those who work in schools with differently-abled students also receive a special allowance.
The teacher is expected to work anywhere in the country where the Commission deems his or her services needed. Furthermore, the instructor must serve at the initial workstation, where the first posting was made, for at least five (5) years before requesting for a transfer. However, in some situations, such a teacher may be transferred under special consideration from the Commission on grounds such as medical and security, as determined by the Commission.
The employment letter is also forwarded to the principal or head of the institution, as well as the TSC County Director.
