The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has been allocated Sh. 281 Billion. Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani revealed this during the announcement of the budget yesterday.
The allocation to TSC is to support various programs in the educator sector to assist in the recovery of time lost during the COVID-19 pandemic while ensuring safe learning.
CS Ukur Yatani stated that of allocation, Sh. 12 billion will be allocated to free primary education (FPE), Sh. 2.5 billion on recruitment of teachers and Sh 4 Billion for waiver of examination fees in both secondary school and primary school candidates.
A further Sh. 1.8 Billion was allocated to the school feeding program.
“I have proposed an allocation of Sh. 1 billion for the Competency-Based Curriculum and Sh. 420 million for the Digital Literacy Programme and ICT Integration in our secondary schools,” said Ukur Yatani.
Among the proposed allocations to the education sector is the Sh. 281.7 Billion for the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Sh, 15.8 Billion for the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Sh. 76.3 Billion for university education, Sh. 633 million for employment of the youth and vocational training promotion and Sh. 323 million for the research fund.
“To support infrastructure development and ensure safe learning in our schools, I have proposed an allocation of Sh. 4.2 Billion for Primary and Secondary schools’ infrastructure and Sh. 1.8 billion for construction and equipping of Technical Training Institutes and Vocational Training Centres,” added CS Yatani.
A further Sh. 1.1 Billion was allocated to increase access and enhance the quality of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs. This will be under the East African Skills Transformation and Regional Integration Project.
