TSC Starts Posting Interns to Schools this January

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to assign 1,995 successful interns to schools at the start of next year.

Even though the successful interns have waited for a long time to be posted to their new schools it seems they will now have a reason for excitement with the Commission set to do so next year with the third term set to begin in January.

The Commission had advertised 1,995 vacancies for teacher interns. Among these 957 were allocated to secondary schools while 1,038 were vacancies set aside for primary schools.

TSC started the recruitment drive for intern teachers which is a move in line with the government’s initiative to develop a pool of young talents for the Kenyan labour market.

The Commission may also recruit more teachers soon with the Ministry of Education recommending an additional Sh. 15 billion increase in its yearly budget.

According to the Draft 2022, Budget Policy Statement, Sh.14.9 billion more has been allocated. This means that the total allocation will now be Sh. 296.6 billion compared to the current Sh. 281.7 billion.

The increased funding under the Teacher Resource Management Act is a possible indication that the Commission is set to recruit more teachers and also raise the existing teachers’ employees’ salaries.

In primary schools, teachers are paid Sh. 15,000 per month while their secondary school counterparts are paid Sh. 20,000.

The hiring of more teachers is set to cover the shortage of teachers in schools across the country as well as reduce the possible teacher shortage expected with the 2023 double intake of learners in junior secondary schools looming.
