TSC Set To Post Newly Recruited Teachers between September and January

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to post teachers who were recently recruited to their new schools starting from next month u to the month of January next year.

It has been reported that posting letters for teachers recruited as replacements are ready and the process of dispatching them to various TSC Sub-County offices has begun.

In following the TSC recruitment roadmap, successful teachers are going to be posted to their new stations of work in early September this year.

However, employment forms filled by successful TSC recruits indicate that some teachers will have to wait until January next year to get them.

According to tradition, TSC takes at least three months from the date of filling employment forms to undergo verification at the Headquarters before being posted to their new schools. However, due to an acute shortage of teachers in primary and secondary schools, it is going to take a shorter time this time round.

There are more than 356,000 teachers out there who are without a job who made applied for the 14,000 job applications advertised by TSC in the last month.

However, for each of the positions advertised, only the top five candidates were shortlisted in a departure from the past when long merit lists used to be used.

In last month’s advertised positions, secondary schools attracted the highest number of applicants with 219,311 teachers applying for the 4,000 vacancies available.

The Commission received 136,833 applications for only 1,000 new vacancies advertised for primary school teachers.

TSC also advertised 8,230 replacement vacancies for teachers who quit the service through natural attrition.

The vacancies were both in primary schools (6,539) and secondary schools (1,691) and received 327,882 applications.

The figures also indicate the rate of unemployment in Kenya which is far much worse in other professions that do not have gradual employment of qualified professionals.
