TSC Officials: Teachers Allowed To Attend CBC Training on Madaraka Day

Teachers are set to attend the second day of their Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) training on Tuesday the 1st of June 2021. A top TSC official has revealed that this will happen even though the day is a public holiday.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is the organizer of the program that commenced today across the country involving three teachers in primary schools.

The three teachers in primary schools are the school head teachers, one lower primary school teacher and one upper primary school teacher.

The changes that the curriculum will come with are being passed to the teachers since they are the ones who will actually effect the changes.

Teachers will take 400/= each day for attending the training.

In a similar training in 2020, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) protested training of teachers on Sunday.

The Union then wrote to TSC imploring the Commission to reconsider. KNUT was of the opinion that Saturdays and Sundays are considered religious days among most teachers.

The Secretary-General to KNUT Wilson Sossion said that TSC needed to reschedule CBC training to another date apart from the weekends.

“You are aware of the National Constitution and the right to worship by all citizens and considering that we are in a festive season where members are engaging in religious activities to any other than Saturdays and Sundays,” said the KNUT Sec-Gen Wilson Sossion in a letters to the TSC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Nancy Macharia.

Despite the protests, teachers were still trained on that day.
