The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released more letters of deployment to practising P1 teachers to teach at the secondary level.
The letters were released this month (October) for PTE teachers who held a Bachelor’s of Education degree (secondary option) and they will now begin teaching their subject areas in secondary schools.
Following a long wait to receive the letters, some of the teachers promoted to secondary schools have reported to their new stations of work.
Despite the good news, teachers have been complaining about the slow rate at which the letters have been issued with just a handful of letters issued at a given time. For instance, in September the Commission issued 14 letters in Embu, 10 in Machakos, 25 in Kitui and 23 in Kisii. This represented a very small fraction when compared to those waiting in the wings. On the other hand, Kwale received 13 while 23 in Vihiga were promoted to secondary schools.
While the letters of deployment are being issued, TSC has always maintained that teachers have to meet the minimum requirements for employment.
In July, the Commission advertised a thousand deployment vacancies for practising P1 certificated holders.
Following the advertisement, TSC is set to deploy a thousand teachers to secondary schools with the deployed teachers starting their new dawn will start at job grade C2 and will be promoted to C3 after the completion of three years according to the Career Progression Guidelines.
