The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has conducted changes in top positions after many directors either left the organization or transferred to new stations.
In the changes, Ms Lilian Wachira who had been Western TSC Regional Director (RD) has been appointed as the new Head of Staffing in an acting capacity. She replaced Rita Wahome who retired early recently.
It is clear that Wahome officially handed over to her successor last Friday at the Commission’s headquarters. Wachira who is a popular technocrat has been a County Director in many regions across the country with Kericho being her last station before she was promoted to Regional Director and got posted to Western.
Head of Staffing is one of the top jobs at TSC and the holder of the position has immense powers in the recruitment, deployment, transfer and promotion of teachers across the country.
For simplicity, the holder of the office becomes second in rank to the TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Nancy Macharia in terms of who calls the shots at the organization which is the largest single employer in East and Central Africa.
Joseph Mukele was also affected by the changes. After being a Deputy Director in Staffing, he has now been posted to Western as the new Regional Director replacing Wachira. Mukele had been acting as the Head of Staffing pending the appointment of a lasting office holder within the structure of the Commission.
Many who know him see him as a capable professional in how he goes about his duties.
Caroline Nandi who had been a senior official in the Staffing department has now been deployed to the field. She is now set to be the new Deputy Director in Siaya County. She is set to replace Joe Atwoto who was promoted to being a full director and was sent to Maralal as the new TSC boss for Samburu.
Jackson Atuti Ongeto has also been appointed as the new Baringo County Director replacing Nzuvu Nzioka who was recalled to the TSC Headquarters for the assignment of new responsibilities. Before his new post, Ongeto had served as the Deputy Director in Kericho County.
The Commission also moved Peter Kega from the Deputy Director of Staffing position to Quality Assurance in the same capacity.
He is set to be the deputy to Dr Reuben Mugwuku Nthamburi who is the head of the Quality Assurance and Standards department. Kega’s replacement is Jane Irambu who has been stationed at the Discipline division as a senior official.
Deputy directors for Kericho, Trans-Nzoia and Nairobi are set to remain vacant after the holders of the positions were moved to other areas. We shall update you on new appointments to fill the positions.
