TSC Appoints Six Senior Officers to Regional Director Roles

Administrative Appointments

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in Kenya has appointed six senior officers to the role of Regional Director. Following the completion of an interview process, these officers have been elevated to the rank of Senior Deputy Director at TSC Grade 4, which corresponds to Job Group ‘S’.

List of Promoted Officers

The group of newly appointed Regional Directors includes both field administrators and staff from the TSC Headquarters. The field officers who received promotions are Hassan Abukar (Makueni), Catherine Mwenda (Nyeri), and Dr. Esther Musani (West Pokot).

Nzuvu Nzioka and Boniface Okumu were promoted from their previous positions at the TSC Headquarters. Furthermore, Dr. Samwel Marigat was officially confirmed in his current capacity as the Nairobi Regional Director.

Structural Changes and Guidelines

Under previous frameworks, county and regional directors operated at Grade 5, or Job Group ‘R’. The transition of regional directors to Job Group ‘S’ is a result of the newly implemented Career Progression Guidelines for Secretariat Staff. The TSC initially advertised these six positions, along with other field vacancies, in October of the previous year, and interviews for shortlisted candidates were conducted between March and April.

Responsibilities in Teacher Management

Regional Directors hold a key position within the TSC structure. Their administrative duties involve the supervision of county directors and the general oversight of regional operations. Additionally, they are responsible for core teacher management functions. This includes managing the deployment and transfer of educational staff within their assigned areas to maintain an equitable distribution of teachers.
