This Is Magoha’s Promise Regarding Form One Selection

Cabinet Secretary for Education Prof George Magoha has promised Kenyans that the forthcoming form one selection process will be done in a transparent manner.

The form one selection process is set to start in two weeks’ time.

According to CS Magoha, most of the students will attend schools that they chose during the selection process. However, those who will not attend the schools they chose are those who did not list them as their first choices.

The CS added that the students will be placed at the levels of national, extra county, county and sub-county schools depending on their performance in the recently announced KCPE examination.

Magoha revealed that the criteria selected will be based on affirmative action and will consider geographical distribution across the country.

While attending the Surgical Society of Kenya conference, CS Magoha also said that the selection criteria will not be discriminative against students who have achieved high marks more so those who come from Kenyan slums and arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL).

“We will ensure that there is affirmative action that considers geographical distribution across the country. Children from the Northern region must be represented in all areas of national schools and in order to do that God and the government have empowered us to be fair.

“We shall ensure all children are given equal, fair and just treatment including those coming from slum areas and those from far-flung arid and semi-arid areas, where we have always had affirmative action,” said CS Magoha.

According to the CS, the 1.2 million candidates who sat for the recently announced KCPE national examination will be placed in secondary schools t=of their choice and for instances where opportunities are limited, merit will apply.

“We will place you where you belong depending on the schools you selected and there will be no interference,” added CS Magoha.
