Teachers Unsettled after Failing to Receive TSC Posting Letters

Some teachers who were employed to work under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in September this year are yet to receive their posting letters.

The teachers have vented their frustrations as they watch their colleagues being posted to their new schools to begin working under permanent and pensionable terms.

TSC recruited a total of 14,460 teachers last month in a bid to address the shortage of teachers in public primary and secondary schools and as replacements for retired tutors.

However, it has been revealed that a good number of teachers have not yet received their posting letters despite TSC CEO Nancy Macharia saying that letters of employment have already been released.

In her address at the Kenya School of Government in Nairobi on Wednesday the 5th of October during the World Teachers’ Day Celebrations, TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia said that TSC had posted all teachers recruited last month.

“The TSC has posted 14,460 new teachers who were recruited last month arising from the fresh recruitment, and replacement of teachers who left service through natural attrition,” said TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia.

The roadmap guiding the recruitment exercise indicated that all successful recruits were supposed to be posted to schools at the start of September.

However, during the filling of employment forms, it was revealed that some teachers will be posted by the end of the year.

In some counties, the employment forms had a date indicating when the teacher will be posted.

Some teachers’ employment forms indicated that they were to be posted in September, while others it was in October and November and the last group is to be posted in December this year.

Usually, it takes the Commission around three months to post a teacher to a school once he/she has filled out the employment form.

At the moment recruits are still receiving posting letters despite the delays being experienced across the country.

Some teachers had resigned from employment in private schools hoping that TSC will post them early but they are now in a difficult position financially with their families still depending on them following delays by TSC to release more letters.

For primary school teachers, their posting letters are found at the County Director’s Office while in secondary school posting letters, they get from secondary school Principals.

Primary School teachers are being posted in counties that are away from their Home Counties. Under the TSC, this is called ‘delocalization’.
