The Ministry of Education has released funds to schools to be used in schools for the first term.
According to the Ministry of Education, Sh. 2.62 billion has been released to primary schools while Sh. 14.85 billion has been released to secondary schools.
The Ministry revealed that they have released funds so as to ensure learning takes place in all public schools without any hiccups. Principals of all public secondary schools have been directed to ensure that learners stay in school and not to allow any interruptions as the academic calendar has been compressed to cover the prolonged period schools were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In March 2020, all learning institutions were closed following the reporting of the first case of COVID-19 to curb the spread of the pandemic.
“Principals are advised to keep learners in their respective schools so to ensure they do not waste any learning time during the ongoing academic calendar,” read a statement from the Ministry of Education.
Heads of schools are not going to try and reach out to parents, guardians, and sponsors of students with fees balances to come up with the most suitable way of clearing the fee balances,” said the Ministry of Education.
At the same time, the Ministry warned school heads who would be culpable of flouting the Ministry of Education’s directive on school fees.
“Any additional fees outside the official guidelines are not going to be tolerated,” read the Ministry of Education’s statement.
Besides, the Ministry of Education implored all parents and stakeholders to ensure that all Form One students report to school given that the government has already released the funds for the First Term.
