Esther Muli Ntheya, a secondary school teacher found with Machakos Senator Boniface Mutinda Kabaka the day he fell sick has been released.
The teacher was released on personal bond following negative poison test results on the Machakos Senator. There were no charges against the tutor but she was instructed to report every 14 days at Kilimani Police Station.
The Teacher was placed in custody on Friday after the senator collapsed at the Dee3 Hotel in Upmarket Kilimani.
The teacher was arraigned in court and police were allowed to place her under their custody for 7 days while they conducted an investigation. At that moment, she was facing murder charges.
Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana revealed that she is a caring lady who took it upon herself to take the Senator to hospital.
“A caring lady who took a gentleman to hospital cannot be a murderer. She deserves justice and bail,” said the Governor.
Her lawyer, who is also Makueni MP Dan Maanzo said that she was “a harmless woman of reputation caught with issues she had no involvement in”.
The lawyer also said that she and Kabaka had been great friends and the tutor was crucial in helping Senator Kabaka to win his seat during the past elections.
“She is not even capable of hurting a fly,” Maanzo told the local media.
The Senator is in admission at the Nairobi Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
An operation has been conducted on him.
