A principal in Baringo County is in police custody following allegations of burning his 5-month old baby causing serious injuries.
Mr. Paul Kipsang, a Principal of Katokon Secondary School in Tiaty is alleged to have placed the baby on fire in his house at the Ngaratuko area under circumstances that are not clear.
According to Baringo North Sub-County Police Commander Fredrick Odinga, the teacher ran into hiding but was arrested on Monday night, five days after committing the heinous act.
The baby was admitted to the Baringo County Referral Hospital where he is undergoing treatment on burns to the face and other parts of the body. The baby’s mother told the police that the husband had earlier given death threats to the family when he returned home drunk.
The suspect is being held at the Loruk police station pending arraignment in court.
In a related case a principal to a secondary school was arrested on in mid-April after allegedly engaging in a sexual act with a Form 4 girl at his house in Kuresoi in Nakuru County.
Kiptagich Location Chief Wycliffe Too, confirmed the incident as he revealed that the Chebotoi Secondary School Principal, Mr. Leornard Baraza was arrested following information sent reported to the police by residents in the area.
The girl is said to be of age 21 years but her birth certificate of Identification Card has not been found to confirm the age. The girl told the police that she went to the tutor’s house after completing her KCSE paper yesterday evening.
The two individuals were taken to Kiptagich police station before the girl was taken to Kiptagich Health Centre where a medical examination confirmed that she had indeed had sexual intercourse with the teacher.
The girl was allowed to go home with her parents while the principal was kept in police custody until 11 pm when he was released on free bond as the police wait for the girl to produce her birth certificate before further action is taken.
