Risk of Electrocution on Children Makes Parents’ Stomachs Run Cold

Parents of children attending Kenyoro Primary School are fearing for the lives of their children due to the potential and the constant threat of electrocution.

According to the school’s headteacher, Mr. David Manyange, the pupils and teachers are living in fear due to the sagging electricity wires hanging above the classrooms and cutting across the school playground.

The parents claimed that the Board of Management had called on the relevant authorities several times to intervene but nothing had been done by that time.

“The bending electricity posts and sagging wires are a disaster in waiting for our children,” said Jane Gesare.

According to Mr. Manyange, he had urged the deputy headteacher to visit the Kenya Power Nyamira to seek for assistance but its officers never responded to the issue as they promised.

“I wrote a reminder to them and served the area chief with a copy but still nothing has happened,” said Manyange.

The head of the institution implored the local authorities to intervene and salvage the situation and prevent an impending disaster.
