Principal in Elgeyo Marakwet Gets Awarded For Doing This

The efforts of a Principal from Elgeyo Marakwet has won the Most Innovative School Head Recognition award for his outstanding efforts.

According to the Principal, it is a passion that motivates her to carry on with her exploits.

Hellen Mabese Luhangala, principal to Moi Kapsowar Girls High School is now happy at home following her recognition during a recent meeting of national school headteachers which the Education Cabinet Secretary also attended.

Besides being principal, Mabese is the secretary of the National Schools Principals Association. She was awarded following her efforts in juggling teaching and management.

She has been recycling plastic material to make dustbins, signposts and other aesthetic components just to mention but a few.

“Conserving the environment is just a passion. It is every human being’s responsibility to ensure the environment is clean for the sake of our health and the mind,” said Mabese.

She also revealed that training and mentoring young girls are one of her passions.

In the past, Mabese was the principal of Sironga Girls High School. She has also been recognized before for re-introducing 4K (Kuungana Kufanya Kujenga Kujenga Kenya) clubs that promoted Agriculture and sustainable food production.

Training on farming activities was taught in her school and applied in the school farm in a bid to produce their own food and learn new skills that they would use when they are back at their homes for food production and generation of income towards attaining self-sufficiency.

In a December 2021 meeting attended by CS Magoha, Mabese was appreciated for her efforts in reviving the 4K clubs which used to be common in the 90s and the 2000s.

Following a series of student unrest across secondary schools in the country last year, many attributed the incidences to boredom and pressure that learners experience in schools while others were of the opinion that the congested academic calendar was to blame. The academic calendar had to be readjusted following the prolonged closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During this time, Mabese on her part organized a cultural event that promoted culture, preserved the environment and harnessed talent. This kept learners engaged in school even after they had completed their examinations.

To crown the event, Principal Mabese revealed that she is still going to continue doing good for her learners, her school and Kenya.
